xTool M1 vs xTool M1 Ultra: Differences Explained
The xTool M1 has been our hot-selling machine for years. This 2-in-1 craft machine was the world’s first to combine laser cutting and blade cutting in one device.
Considering user needs, we have launched an upgraded model, the M1 Ultra: a versatile 4-in-1 craft machine. Like its predecessor, it also introduces new technologies, seen for the very first time in craft machines.

xTool M1 vs xTool M1 Ultra: Laser Module
M1 Ultra features a diode laser module similar to M1 but with upgraded power options. M1 comes with 5W or 10W diode laser options whereas M1 Ultra offers 10W or 20W.
More power means greater material compatibility and the ability to accommodate thicker materials. The 10W variant (in M1) can only cut a maximum of 6mm (basswood). In comparison, M1 Ultra’s 20W diode laser cut through 10mm basswood.
The engraving capabilities are similar – both can engrave flat surfaces and cylindrical objects (with RA2 Pro attachment). However, the engraving speed has been enhanced: M1 can engrave at a maximum of 250mm/s, whereas the Ultra can reach speeds of up to 400mm/s.
The design positioning technology is different as well. M1 uses the camera for design positioning and batch-filling items. In contrast, M1 Ultra utilizes our advanced Pin-Point Machining system, where you mark points on the material, and software sketches outline for design mapping. Auto-focus is present in both machines.
xTool M1 vs xTool M1 Ultra: Blade Cutting Module
M1 comes with only a fine-point blade, which can cut thin materials like vinyl, papers, and stickers. In contrast, the xTool M1 Ultra features a versatile blade module with multiple blade options, extending its compatible materials and cutting thickness.
M1 Ultra includes four blades: a fine point blade (same as in M1), a tapered blade, a rotary blade, and a foil transfer tip.
The tapered cutting blade enables the craft machine to tackle thick and flexible materials (up to 2.5 mm) like wood, leather, craft foam, etc.
There’s a dedicated rotary blade which can cut through fabrics like cotton, denim and linen.
Moreover, a sharp foil transfer tip is included to create a stunning gold foil effect and embossing.
Other Additions to M1 Ultra
In addition to the multiple upgrades in the existing two modules, the M1 Ultra offers two new modules: an inkjet printing module and a pen drawing module. It is the world’s first machine to include these four functionalities.
Inkjet Printing Module
Inkjet printing is one of the most exciting additions to a cutting machine. You no longer need a separate printer – you can print the design on the material and cut it out using the same machine.
When the inkjet printing module is in place, the M1 Ultra functions like a regular color printer, allowing you to input photographs or colored designs. The machine can print on commonly used materials like paper and wood.
Pen Drawing Module
It turns the machine into a robotic sketch artist. With the machine’s standard pack, we offer 0.4mm fine liner pens in 8 shades: black, blue, yellow, orange, red, green, purple, and cyan.
Besides that, you can also insert any third-party pens and use it for drawing.
Conclusion
The M1 Ultra is the successor to our best-selling craft machine (xTool M1), which still remains a popular choice in the crafts community, and we’re hopeful it continues to be so.
Choose the M1 Ultra if your crafting demands more than just cutting. The M1 Ultra can save you the hassle of buying and switching between multiple machines to complete a single project.
Want to experience how a single machine that prints, draws, and cuts feels? The M1 Ultra awaits you.
